This is total heterophobic bullshit. Gay people are not superior. Straight couples and gay couples alike can be total pricks. Gay people aren’t perfect.

This isn’t saying that gay people are perfect.  The point is that this particular gay couple would be much better at raising children than this particular straight couple, but while the latter might be able to adopt, the former has no chance.

Oh the usual old “smokers and fat people are bad parents” shit, I see. In the UK gay people can adopt and foster, whilst smokers flat out can’t, and fat people are starting to be told that they can’t adopt or foster either. I don’t get why some gay rights advocates are fine with other groups being treated as second class citizens. It’s hypocritical. The cartoon isn’t heterophobic propaganda, it’s the usual tired old smoker and fat hating classist propaganda, and it’s fairly hurtful to people (like me) who were brought up by a wonderful dad who was ‘obese’ and smoked cigars, and a wonderful mum who is a smoker.

I was thinking more “abusers who beat and scream at their adopted children and have a pigsty for a house are bad parents”, but have it your way.

Right then why was the smoking or them being fat relevant to the cartoon? No really, I’d love to know :)

So that they can be represented as slovenly, not taking care of themselves or their children, and waving that lit cigarette at their children in anger.  You can only be so subtle in a political cartoon like this.

Right yeah I guess my dad who worked every night since he was 16, and working up to 4 jobs at a time during his life was slovenly because he was fat, and a bad parent because he smoked. No. You’re a cunt. Fuck off. I’ve lost my voice from crying over my dad today. None of you people are funny. Bye.

Good job learning from the “social justice” clowns.

The misandry tag should be fun but instead it’s filled with people believing it’s actually a thing.

I’m sorry if people actually caring about male victims and their families is interrupting your humour but…. actually, no I’m not because I’m a decent human being who doesn’t think certain victims should be denied, pushed aside and laughed at because of their gender.

i care about male victims, but i realize that men are ignored because our society tells us women are weak and emotional (because emotions are considered weak) and need help and men are strong both physically and emotionally and if they dare let themselves be overpowered by women or other men (because our society likes to blame the victim) and show emotion or distress they are not manly enough and are considered lesser. Basically men are denied help because society believes they don’t need it, because if they need it society considers them feminine (weak) and lesser.

ya dig?

And when was the last time feminism did jack shit about that? In fact, feminists routinely reinforce discrimination against men.

You’re welcome to read up on Erin Pizzey. She established the first battered women’s shelters in the UK, and found that a significant percentage of the women coming to the shelter were just as abusive as the partners they left. So she decided to set up male shelters as well. It was feminists, the ~impeccable, saintly heroes of equality~ according to you who threatened her life and killed her dog to prove the gravity of their threats, because how dare anyone disagree with them or care about anyone else?

You can say whatever you want, but actions speak far louder than words. And while the words, the propaganda are “we want equality for all”, the actions say “nobody’s problems matter but ours!”. And the world is getting increasingly sick and tired of your bullshit.

I live in a country called the Faroe Islands. It doesn’t matter if you capitalize the “f”, the spell-checker is still there.
Does that mean that my country doesn’t exist?

Yes, absolutely. Reality is literally defined by the Firefox spellchecker. Before Firefox was created, nothing truly existed, and we were all in a state of quantum flux.

Wait… does that mean…

wait does that mean tumblr ain’t real? it comes up as a spelling mistake

I hate to tell you, but yes. Right now, you’re sitting in front of your computer with a “Server not found” error on the screen, tripping balls and imagining that you’re talking to people on a nonexistent website.

Funny thing is, my spellchecker does recognize misandry.  Not “spellchecker”, though.  Nor tumblr.  Radfem is right out.  Glad to hear they don’t exist.

I don’t get why Bloomberg is going after Sodas.

meravie:

minarchist:

I think his programs are retarded but, if he’s really concerned about people’s health why doesn’t he go after tobacco or alcohol? Cigarettes and  liquor are more detrimental to people’s health than fatty foods will ever be.

Or better still, why doesn’t he just leave people alone to make their own choices. As soon as people start saying, “Why don’t they go after x instead,” it just gives the public health nutjobs free reign to go after pretty much everyone. Smokers, fat people, people who drink (in the UK “experts” are saying any alcohol at all is bad and should be discouraged), people who put salt in their food, people who choose not to breastfeed, meat eaters - all in the line of fire. People must say no to government interference.

I agree with you, meravie, but to answer the original question, in the US we already tried banning alcohol and smoking is practically illegal in NYC anyway, so there’s no point.

anarcho-wario:

So let’s talk about this, shall we? Rachel Maddow, recently featured in a Reddit AMA session (answering nothing of any significance) makes it her prerogative to shine the sexist signal on the gun control debate.

Maddow: “Let the record show that you can be a United States Senator for 21 years, you can be 79-years-old, you can be the chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and one of the most recognizable and widely respected veteran public servants in your nation, but if you are female while all of other those things, men who you defeat in arguments will still respond to you by calling you hysterical and telling you to calm down.”

  • Diane Feinstein is an ancient senator shilling the same spiel for over 30 years, standing on the corpse of Harvey Milk.
  • Senator Cruz’s question was not answered but evaded by Feinstein until asked a second time.
  • Child pornography is cited as an example of “free speech” that is not protected by the 1st amendment, even though the production of child pornography NECESSITATES the violation of a child’s autonomy and in no way can be consented to, making this point both disgusting and invalid.

But remember, the issue here is sexism. Not complete ignorance.

Fucking shill.

This should have WAY more notes.  The worst part is that the NYPD lawyers are claiming that by law the police officers who watched the incident had no duty to protect any of the individuals on the train.  It’s disgusting.

not like they’re supposed to “serve and protect” or anything. but thank god for people like this guy.

Chile, they ain’t even backin’ up WHITE MEN!

NYPD lawyers are right — courts have ruled repeatedly that police have no duty to protect anyone.  (Barely relevant: the NYPD’s motto is “Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect.”  Other city departments have a variety of other mottoes.  Everyone thinks “to protect and serve” is some kind of universal cop motto because it’s the LAPD’s motto, so it’s on every TV show ever.)
That’s why government needs to stop getting in the way of armed self-defense, the way they mostly have in 40ish states.  Since police have no duty to do it (which is the right decision — they can’t be everywhere), self-defense falls back on the individual people, who have every right to have the best tools ever invented for it (semi-automatic handguns).
Regardless, this guy is a hero (and pretty badass for pulling off something he’d only seen on TV).

I hate when people say “axe” in that context… Just as much as when people say “Nuculur” it’s “ask” and “Nuclear” get it right people… There is no “X” in “ask”

Nothing says “lol” like hurling about classism while insulting AAVE and flat-out saying you’re too good to converse with the people who speak it!

are you okay.

I’d be a lot better if arrogant little fucks like you didn’t go around spreading your bigotry everywhere.

The only one who is being arrogant is you, for believing you shouldn’t pronounce a word correctly, and not replace it with the pronunciation of another word… I have plenty of friends black, white, asian, or otherwise who will agree with me.ask  Verb Say something in order to obtain an answer or some information. Noun The price at which an item, esp. a financial security, is offered for sale: “ask prices for bonds”. Synonyms
inquire - request - invite - question - demand - beg
axe: an edge tool with a heavy bladed head mounted across a handle.

Oh, well, I didn’t know I was talking to someone with black friends. Clearly, you’re the expert here. I mean, it’s not like language is a malleable and constantly changing art that is fluid and has countless recognized and legitimate sub-dialects.
THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME WHAT AN AXE IS NOW I SEE IT ALL SO CLEARLY.

Clearly this person does not know I am African-American as well… Read my about me…

Stop quoting Derailing for Dummies, it’s getting you nowhere.

Language may change… But an axe is used to cut trees, not to be used in an inquisitive manner…You are the one accusing me of derailing the subject yet what exactly are you doing… I am stating as an African American I have a say in this as well without the ability of being labeled a racist for it.

You clearly don’t understand linguistics if this is a hard concept for you to grasp.
So do I have the all-clear to point out again how insanely classist you’re being?

Then obviously my English Professor doesn’t understand linguistics either if they give horrible grades to anyone who writes a paper using “Axe” instead of “ask” She has a PhD care to argue with her on linguistics? I’ve seen her fail several students of different races and classes, even a rich white boy wannabe “gangsta” who spoke like that, and apparently even wrote like it.It isn’t accepted as proper english vernacular by most learned scholars of the English language, here’s a paper from  From Stanford University

Did you read that paper?  I’m pretty sure it says the opposite of that — that it is accepted as a vernacular dialect of English.

The pronciation of ask as “axe” has a very long pedigree. There is a line in Chaucer which reads: ”I axe, why the fyfte man Was nought housband to the Samaritan?”, one of a number of examples of this sort of thing.
If you go to actual England, where the English comes from, you will be exposed to a variety of accents and dialects where familiar words are pronounced all crazy-like, (they still use THEE and THOU in Yorkshire) but for some reason this particular one, a familiar avatar of African-American dialects, appears to have struck you as worthy of special mention.
I wonder why.

Interesting.
